Spring Training

BaseballThe way I feel about youth sports goes something like this:  I can’t wait for it to start and then once it does start about half way through I’m ready for it to be over.  So, at this point I’m excited about the season starting.

Lil k is playing baseball.  He has been a soccer player since he was 4 except for one season in T-Ball.  I think currently he sort of feels of baseball like I did when I was learning how to play golf in my “before kids” years.  I hated playing about the first 30 or so times I played.  (I had about 2 good years of playing after that, then I had lil k and well haven’t played seriously since.)  When you are competitive by nature, it is terrible to play something that you are TERRIBLE at!  So this All-Star Soccer player is learning a new sport, from scratch….and he isn’t to happy about it.

Tonight we were on the field at 630pm, he seems to be learning pretty fast.  He had some good small  successes tonight and actually caught several good balls.  Luckily, he isn’t the only “new” player on the team.

He hit pretty good for it being his first time, (literally his first time on a team, hitting a baseball with a bat that was thrown by his coach), meaning he hit about 6-7 of the 10 balls that his coach pitched to him.  He is having a harder time with the throwing of the ball.

On Sat. when we had practice, he forgot to “tag” the bag when running sprints from home plate to 1st base.  This “soccer player” is quick, just not that versed on the rules of the game.

Hang in there buddy….
