Chicago Trip Update

View from our room onto Michigan Ave.I think I have finally defrosted.

The trip to Chicago and The Oprah Winfrey Show was
a m a z i n g!!!

Oh, where to begin!

Monday, with snow on the ground, I arrived about 130pm.  With about an hour to kill before Marie landed, I wandered around the airport and decided to wait for her down at baggage claim so my bag would not be “unattended”.  Lost or stolen luggage would not be a good start to the trip.  When I saw Marie I think she was ready to kiss the ground.  She hates to fly.  We called for a taxi, but realized later it was a car service.  Very nice and clean for about $50 ($25 each, score!).  Our Hotel on Michigan Ave.A direct trip to our hotel in about 30 min!  We stayed at the world famous four star hotel “The InterContinental“.  Our home for the week was located on Michigan Ave. / in the heart of the downtown.

Travelers Note: We booked our hotel through hotwire.com, $390 for 4 nights.  Yes, you read that right.  So for under $50 each we were living in luxury.  Add the town car service and hotwire.com to my favorites list.

My grandmother flew into Midway, so we planned to meet up with my mom (who drove from NY) later in the evening.

After checking into the **** hotel, we headed out for a walk.  My first time in Chicago, how exciting!

Top Highlights include:
1.  French Onion Soup (twice) at Bistro 110
2.  Sephora – Philosophy and Bare Minerals – a girls best friend with no shipping and handling!
3.  Snow Flurries
4.  A Vince Vaughn sighting – They were filming his new movie Fred Claus at the Norstroms (right across the street from our hotel).  Gosh, he is tall.  After seeing about 12 Santas from my hotel room window, I finally convinced Marie to go down with me to take a look, nevermind it is around 10-11pm.  Imagine us standing in the median on Michigan Avenue, arctic cold outside watching appx. 12 Santas chase Vince Vaugh into Nortstroms through one of those revolving doors.   (about 3-5 times before we decided we were about to turn into popcicles)
5. Lunch at RL Restaurant (RL = Ralph Lauren) – A Grand Experience!  All the details perfectly executed, this was truly one of the highlights of the trip.  The tables have white linens and real silver, the waiters even place your napkin in your lap.  I tried Lobster Bisque and the Polo Club, it was delicious.  The service was wonderful!  The restaurant itself is very posh, but small with dark rich wood which makes for a very unique cozy atmosphere….black and white photos of famous faces line the walls.  Despite my mom’s issue with what table we sat at, it was f a n t a s t i c.  Marie and I toured the world’s largest RL store before lunch, it was just as beautiful with lots of wood, an impressive staircase and great art work throughout.  The RL Restaurant makes you feel glamourous!
6. American Girl Place – the tea room had smaller tables and chairs perfect for little girls.
7.  Walking across the street at 9pm for Starbucks!!
8.  Giordano’s Pizza – their small pizza is definately enough for THREE people!
9.  Garrett Popcorn – served warm….it’s the best!
10.  The reason for the trip the taping of the Oprah Show.  Look for the details in a different post.  The show we viewed has an air date of 2 Feb 2007, don’t miss it.  The topic was “Millionaire Mom’s”.  Set your TIVO or DVR.

more details coming soon….
